COVID-19

A Message from The Law Office of Kevin F. Jursinski & Associates regarding COVID-19 as of April 1, 2020.

In an effort to protect our staff, clients and visitors to our office from COVID-19, we have implemented several safety precautions following the guidelines set forth by the CDC.

First, our line of work with our affiliated title company falls into the category of essential businesses under the U.S. Treasury mandate as of March 22, 2020 and we are following the directives as specified therein.   The financial services sector,  is identified as “a critical infrastructure sector by the Department of Homeland Security.” The directive further identifies that state and local officials are to work to protect our communities while ensuring continuity of critical functions to public health and safety as well as economic and national security.  The U.S. Federal Guidelines also advise that if a business works, “in a critical infrastructure sector as defined by the U.S. Homeland Security, you have a special responsibility to maintain your normal work schedule.”   Therefore, our firm is open and working.

However, since the Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ mandate to “stay-at-home” as of April 1, 2020, we are no longer accepting clients or visitors to our office.  Any client who needs to drop off documents or sign paperwork will need to make arrangements with the attorney, paralegal or closing agent.  Clients have the option to bypass an in-person meeting by selecting a video conference (using zoom.us) or a simple phone call or email.   For our clients who need to sign documents that require notarization, we have a third-party mobile notary service that can come to you for a fee.

Precautions in Place for Weeks

Prior to Governor DeSantis’ mandate on April 1, our office had already been practicing the “safe distance and sanitation” protocol for weeks.  In fact, our offices, conference rooms, restrooms and common areas are cleaned and sanitized frequently thorough the day.  In our client designated areas, we are cleaning and sanitizing before and after each meeting.    Additionally, our conference rooms are set up so that we could meet with small groups of people while maintaining  the recommended social distance of 6-10 feet.  Our staff is currently maintaining social distancing as they are working in their individual offices (not cubicles) and some of our staff is working remotely.

For those clients who visited our office, we offered disinfectant wipes and sprays in all of our common areas and meeting rooms.  We also offered face masks, latex gloves, hand sanitizing gel, and garbage cans with foot-action opening for hands-free trash disposal.

Small Business Assistance

Many of our clients are the owners of small business here in Southwest Florida and around the country.  With the COVID-19 pandemic wreaking havoc on the economy and costing may people their employment, we encourage our small business owner clients to visit the Small Business Administration Disaster Loan Assistance Application’s website:  https://covid19relief.sba.gov/#/ .  Here, you can apply for the federal government’s loan to assist with economic losses and employment assistance during due to the pandemic.

Keep in mind, with the number of small businesses looking for financial assistance at this time, there is a slowdown in the normal processing of loans.  To help you determine if or when to apply, please read this article:  https://www.bbva.com/en/how-the-government-shutdown-affects-your-small-business-administration-sba-loan/

For our real estate clients, we are seeing an uptick in clients calling to ask a variety of questions related to their investments, sales or purchases. Specifically, we are getting a lot of calls asking about cancelling or withdrawing from real estate contracts.  Keep in mind, there may be serious ramifications for doing this.

Additionally, we are also seeing an increase in Buyer’s wanting to take occupancy prior to closing or, conversely, Seller’s wanting to stay in occupancy following a closing.  Again, these scenarios could be major issues in the long run.

We’ve published two articles addressing the Pitfalls of Pre-Closing and Post-Closing Occupancy Agreements and on How COVID is affecting Real Estate in Florida.  You can read both articles  on our website:  https://www.kfjlaw.com/news/published-articles/.  If you need further assistance, please contact our office.

We are hoping that we can shed some light in this dark time and assist our clients and our real estate colleagues so they are educated on issues that may come up due to the pandemic.  We are, and have been, taking the steps necessary to protect our most important assets: our staff and our clients all while still continuing to progress our cases and keep our small business working.   Although separated, we will get through this together.

Please contact us if you have any questions: (239) 337-1147.
